Winery of the Month

Passage Rock
Meet David and Veronika Evans-Gander, pioneers of Waiheke’s wine scene. Since 1994, they've transformed 41 acres in the Te Matuku Valley into a thriving wine and food destination. Their journey started with a shared dream to cultivate a sustainable lifestyle—nurturing their land, vines, wines, and people. David, with lifelong ties to Waiheke and international wine-making experience, and Veronika, with her self-sufficient upbringing in Switzerland, came together to build their vision from the ground up. They created the vineyard, winery, bottling plant, cellar door, and restaurant, turning their dream into reality. Focused on quality and affordability, Passage Rock wines have consistently won awards, helping to bring international acclaim to Waiheke’s wine industry. David oversees all aspects of wine production, while Veronika’s art and craft-making connect visitors to the spirit of the land. Together with their sons, Johnny and Marvin, they’ve built a multi-generational family business dedicated to producing exceptional wines in a stunning setting. Their ultimate goal is for you to experience their hospitality—enjoying great wines and food while surrounded by vines and overlooking the bay. David and Veronika’s passion, craftsmanship, and 30 years of hard work are evident in every bottle.
